Breeding & Improving Devon Honeybee Queens A one-day seminar to discuss and establish a plan to build up a knowledge base so that a queen breeding programme can be established throughout the county, with a potential beneficial effect on the gene pool and the general health of our honeybees. Keynote speaker is Ged Marshall, a commercial bee breeder at Oakfield Honey Farm in Buckinghamshire. The farm has about 400 hives, produces about 200 queens for their own use, 500 queens for sale and 10 tons of honey per annum. Ged will be giving the Keynote address, followed by workshops. Places will be limited to 75, with the emphasis on an equal spread between all branches of the Devon Beekeepers’ Association (DBKA). e-Tickets from Roger Lacey – devonbees@pobox.com This is a joint event by DBKA and the Devon Apicultural Research Group (DARG) and the cost will be covered by DBKA. Further details will be sent with the e-ticket acknowledgement. For lunch, bring your own picnic. |
